nailing it!

Now that Saralli HQ are branching out into stocking some amazing new products to compliment our hand made accessory range – here are some summaries of great nail polish trends that are hot to trot for this Spring/Summer!

In keeping with my Saralli style, I thought it could be cute to pick out key trends which would appeal to all types of Saralli girls – the boho earth angels, the glamourzons, the casual beach bunnies, the arty farty vintage fashionista’s and the indie rockers. Since I’m a little bit of each of these types of girls too, these were definately trends that appeal to me – so hopefully you find an idea for you here too!

1. EARTHY GREEN/BLUE/TURQUIOSE/NAVY/ROYAL – and all shades in between! I must admit for the last week, I have had baby blue nails. Something I may have not done in the past as its not a traditional nail colour, but since stocking NICOLE BY O.P.I products, I have been exposed to some AMAZING shades, and now definately don’t care less about what colour a finger/toe nail SHOULD be – its now whatever colour I feel like at the time! so i’m going through a blue phase…bit of a bower bird….. here’s some inspiration for you.

for the earth angels....

and how good is the shatter effect on the last one?!?! SO EASY TOO! 3 shades of blue/green in stripes across nail/followed by the black shatter polish over the top ( we will be stocking the shatter polish in the next month or so).

my pic from the range sold @ Saralli is this colour:

2. NUDES/NEAUTRALS AND BLUSH TONES

So if we are going to  be embracing the big colour blocking trend this summer, having a basic nude nail will always work. Its soft enough to work with any outfit, yet will still be noticed for the right reasons…. nude tones look great on any skin tone/any type of nail and hand, so why not try it out? a great place to start for the not so adventurous nail artists.

here’s the best rudey nude from our stock:

3. THE CUTE AND FEMININE CREATIONS!

This trend is pretty fun. Basically pick a couple of bright colours/contrast colours from your collection – do a base coat in one colour, and either do something simple with the brush of the other colour (eg big spot in the middle/stripes) or if your feeling more creative, buy a really cheap eyeliner or nail brush and do some finer lines/dots/symbols…..here’s some inspiration!

these are a couple of colours I have picked out from our range that I think would look super cute in a stripe or spot pattern! click them to follow to our online store.

4.  COLOUR BLOCKING. yes yes, look I know EVERYONE is doing it – our fast fashion retailers are really going hard on this trend ATM, but hey, if you can’t beat them – join them right?! I especially love this look if you do a really neutral outfit/ eg all nude tones/ all black/or even black and white and just go all out with a coloured nail and lip. BANG! you’re so trendy, and you didn’t have to spend much at all! and as this trend comes and goes, you will be thanking me that you didn’t splash out and buy all those colour blocked skirts/tops/dresses that are no longer “in” in a couple seasons time.

now, obviously with this trend any colour mix is good! but I am particularly loving orange and pink together this season. check these out, click on them to head to the shop.

buy here!

now, after writing about all these inspiring and artistic nail art trends – here is something I attempted when I first got all my OPI colours in! its a little bit of a hack job, but you get the idea!

NAJAVO GONE WILD!

also, if you want to learn a good way to apply your nail polish if your not as steady handed as others, follow this link for a great step by step way to apply. My tip is that its all about patience, make sure your not sitting infront of a fan/wind/heater and strong from the base to the tip. always scrape one side of the brush when you dip to get rid of excess colour.

happy painting ladies!

Saralli is growing! read about our exciting new products here!

Hello Cherubs!

just a quick one to introduce you to our lovely new products now being stocked at www.saralli.com.au !!

1. LIME CRIME

An American based cosmetics company who produce beautiful, affordable, animal friendly (VEGAN!), bright and fun lippies and eyeshadow dusts! they are a little bit theatrical, a little bit ethereal and a lot fantasy-full! The brand is all about fun, femininity and fantasy! With lots of sparkle and unicorns – and the creator, Doe Deere (perfectly matching name to her brand) is just beautiful, and exudes her brand inside and out, truly inspirational to me!

Doe Deere - creator of LIMECRIME

this leads me to sharing with you my favourite lipsticks from this range! I have 5 in my personal collection, and let me tell you, they DON’T DISSAPOINT! Some are combined with a lipstain to prolong the colour, eg the red and the deep pinks etc, and when I wear these out, I probably only go over it once (perhaps after dinner/or half way through the night) and the colour is still on until I get home!

click to buy here!

My other favourite, is this nude colour below….its very special to me. Kind of a staple shade. I don’t have very big lips, so I never really liked the idea of lipstick. But since buying a few MAC ones and these LIME CRIME shades, i’m totally converted and think I can get away with it on my teeny lips! just has to be styled well! i’m usually all about the eyes when it comes to make up, so a killer smokey eye and this nude shade are actually partners in crime for me now.

click to buy!

Who am I kidding? I pretty much love the whole range, its so hard playing favourites when they are all amazing in their own rights!

click here to see the full range and to order.

Don’t forget, they also do amazing eyeshadow dust colour too! this is my favourite pic, cannot wait to get my hands on it!

medusa

its a baben’ shade of navy, perfect for my smokey eye and nude lip combo!

So next brings me onto something for our fingertips!

2. introducing….Nicole BY OPI. Nicole is the daughter of the OPI founder, so she has come up with an off-shoot product which targets younger girls who are fashion savvy and want on trend fashion nail colours at an affordable price.

The product pretty much speaks for itself, again, sooo many colours and not enough sets of hands for me to want to try them all!!

I have picked out about a dozen of my favourite colours for pre-sale, but they actually have a range of 114 shades! it was so hard to choose! so  if anyone wants something different, let me know because i’m sure they will have it!

the cool thing about Nicole by OPI is also that they collab with celebrities to make their own colour ranges. At the moment, the “Biebs” has his own collection. yep, hows that for a great way to cash in on his fame? very smart me thinks. The colours are actually really  cool, I will be stocking a few of his which I think are on trend right now.

click here to see which colours I have chosen!

but the even better part is that their next collection with be a collaboration with the KARDASHIANS! woo – now were talking!

cannot wait for their collection!

to see the ranges I have chosen, click here!

Anyway, get your orders in ASAP to ensure you get the colours you want in the first drop I get! it takes about 3-4 weeks so if you don’t order now, their will be a much longer wait until you can pretty up your make-up collection!

love, light and colourful kisses!

birds of a feather

My little Saralli babies!

Just thought I would do a quick post about something I only just found out about (thanks to my fashion savvy Aunty!).

Feather hair extensions?. I mean, I have seen them on celebs here and there, but didn’t realise they were actual extensions!

see here…

Steve Tyler found on Tumblr

he has a feather earring in, but those little feather strands are actually extensions!

So after going on a google hunt, I found that these are obviously HUGE in the US, and its kinda like the next hair fad.

They can be curled, washed, straightened and grow out/fall out just like a real bead hair extension.

I still don’t know how I feel about them – I mean, It’s really good in theory… but I think I would probably be over them in a week. Sometimes they just wouldn’t go with my outfit!

I think i’m going to stick with this item I have had for 6 months now (not that i’m bias or anything ;) – it clips in with a tiny butterfly clip to any part of your hair, a little bit of gold chain for extra pop and looks ridiculously good in loose and messy boho curls. win!

on sale now for only $9.95!

click this image to find it in our online store

So if you want to get your hands on one, now is the chance because they won’t be coming back!

anyway, if you have any further stories about the feather hair extensions please do share with me, I haven’t spoken to anyone who has had them yet so would love to see what they are like.

thats all for today, I’m going to tell you all about our new products in my next post so stay in the loop

Love, light and feathers!

it’s our birthday – time to celebrate!

Beautiful Sarallian’s….

the time has come to celebrate our 2ND BIRTHDAY! we were actually “born” late 2008, but launched to the big bad world on the 19th June, 2009!!

For those who don’t know about Saralli, here’s a little synopsis on what we have achieved and how much we have grown over our 2 years of existence.

It all started when I brought home a box of Strella fabric headers (eg sample swatches you look at when you buy fabric) because I couldn’t bare to see them go in the bin (we sold it at work).

Every piece of this fabric was ABSOLUTELY breathtaking, I mean, you have never seen anything like it in your life. This fabric company is based in England, and its the kind of fabric you would see on the runways of Milan and Paris, haute couture to the max. Picture massive silk flowers hand stitched onto a hand painted silk satins, some of them you could picture in a magnificent designer bridal gown, others, more suitable for a drag show costume! anyway, I think you get the point.

So I thought – these would look fabulous on headbands!

one of our first creations...

and so it begun…. traditional “sewing nights” every thursday night, and my room mate and I (me Sarah, her Allison, which makes the name Saralli!) worked like machines creating cute one of a kind accessories, from headbands, cuffs and necklaces for 6 months until we had enough stock to hit the markets!

We launched at the Brisbane Young Designer Markets on the 19th June, and for a few months that was where we made our money to keep then buying more materials and branching out to bigger and better things.

at the markets...

Early 2010, we picked up local accessory store Thousand Island Dressing as a stockist, then we started making a special collection of necklaces for Brisbane designer Sacha Drake for her flagship boutique.

She bought it from the Sacha Drake store! woo!

As it became harder to get spots at the markets, I moved out, took the label with me and decided to take on Fashion Week. Saralli’s very first collections were born!

I travelled through Europe in May 2010, and while that was happening, back home, all the great things I was planting seeds for began to bloom. I had been accepted to showcase at MBFF (QLD fashion week runway show). yay! I also was a finalist for Fashion Exposed debut collection, which saw me travelling to Melbourne to set up a small stall in a massive fashion trade show and runway show. This also created a lot of media for Saralli, we were featured in some local media, front cover of MX and loads of online media too. All this while working full time too!

Front cover of MX with beautiful Gaelan x

At the end of 2010, my second collection was born, and was sold online through our website. It was a huge hit, and stores like Littlelace and Jorj Clothing were now Saralli stockists!

Jorj Clothing @ Stones corner

Now mid 2011, with Australian Fashion week also under our belt, Saralli is still hanging in there! we launched our e-commerce online store in March, which has been a huge success! I see a great future for us in online shopping, and am really happy to continue to focus on making great limited edition things, that can be sold to you from the comfort of your home, whenever you want. This is great for me because it makes all the hard work worthwhile when I see the orders coming through, especially from my home town, Brisbane. I design it, make most of it, photograph it, market it, package it and post it and its just lovely to see how personal that is for my customers. A lot of love goes into every piece, and I am there through every step of the way.

So anyway, that brings you all up to date and thus leaves us now to celebrate the great achievements Saralli has made. It may all seem small on the grand scheme of fashion labels, but to me, i’m really proud and although i’m taking baby steps, one day my baby will be all grown up, heading to school and eventually conquering the world.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!!

yay!!

To celebrate, I have decided that on top of the items that are already on sale, that there will be a 20% off online store wide until the end of the month! thats a good 2 weeks to order anything you have had your eyes on over the last couple of months, until it all sells out (and i’m telling you, there are literally like only 2-3 things of most of these items left, so don’t procrastinate any longer).

There is also a tag yourself to win competition going on at the moment, and I will announce the lucky winner at the end of the month also….however, there is now going to be another competition! and it involves YOU!

I have many closet Saralli girls out there who are too camera shy/lazy to upload pics of them in their Saralli, there have been a few brave ones, but for the most of you – COME ON! PICK UP YOUR GAME!

beautiful shot from Saralli girl Samara, thanks for this amazing image!

So this is my announcement. There is going to be a competition based on who uploads a picture of themselves on our page. The photo with the most “likes” wins a $100 Saralli voucher!

so to enter, this is what you gotta do!

1. take a photo of YOU wearing your saralli, whether its vintage saralli or new, whatever you  have got, I want to see!

2. email the photo to sarah@saralli.com.au OR post on the saralli designs fan page (not the online store page).

3. I will put them into an album where your friends and fans can vote for you.

4. Winner will be announced on the 30th June 2011.

5. Then you can go shopping!!!

so, I will leave you all with that and hopefully be seeing your creative styling efforts on our page very soon….consider that Saralli’s birthday present! she will be thrilled ;)

love and light my pretties, enjoy

RAFW report: Sorry its taken so long!

hello my lovely Sarallian’s!!

so this is going to be a MASSIVE UPDATE! i think i’m going to do it over a few days, just so i don’t bore you all! so, as I rattle off the happenings of the last 6 weeks or so, here is one major Saralli update for y’all.

1. RAFW (rosemount australian fashion week….eeeeep!!)

such a fun day for me (however, if it was my own show, well, maybe fun wouldn’t be the word!)

So I designed and made the accessories for the Terri Donna show. She’s another local Brisbane talent who I met at the Young designer markets years ago…Terri is an absolute FREAK when it comes to what she does. I mean, its very rare to find designers and budding business woman such as herself actually manufacturing ALL her swimwear herself. yep, thats right. can you imagine? She is strapped to her sewing machine to drill out the amazing creations you see on the runway and in stores…not to mention developing her own lycra prints, and being her own sales rep (to name a few of her jobs).

When I arrived to help Terri out on the day, I sensed she was really tense in texted and when I got backstage, I am informed that her shoe sponsor, who was providing all the shoes for the models on the runway (that was organised WEEKS in advance mind you) had completely stuffed up and they actually didn’t have ANYTHING to give to Terri’s team for the show. ON THE RUNWAY DAY. like, hours before show time. Are these people for real?! God some people in fashion just really should get their s**t together. I know its not an industry renowned for its organisation or punctuality, but still. NOTHING?! luckily, with a group of quick thinking PR girls this problem was soon solved and they managed to get in contact with another shoe company, who just happened to answer this distress call, informed the girls of a warehouse full of shoes they could raid just hours before the show and so it was done. BANG. new shoes, all 30 pairs of them, on loan, and perfect for the collections….. “when god gives you lemons….”

vollies prepping the shoes

Now, I know what your thinking, text book “fashion” dilemma right?! yes, i’m sure there are much bigger problems in this world,  but honestly, It was actually really important at the time! and of course, after this crisis was evaded, shoes were taped, labeled, allocated to models, hair and make-up teams were running around like crazy finishing off the looks, we are briefing the volunteers on styling (some of which still didn’t get it right!!) and we are patiently waiting for the finale which was the TerriDonna show…

waiting for their walk!
